Started December 2010 by stalking Mayer Hawthorne.. lol

I was at some DJ event where he was there, I vaguely remember the actual DJs, but I know that Mayer Hawthrone's crew Stones Throw was a part of it. I literally stalked him to try and take a picture and then my camera was acting up and I got the above result.

Some of the events of the month also led to the below:
Anyway, by this point, I had a design degree and needed to find out where I was going to go. Was I going to stay a makeup artist and freelance designer to build J. Faye?

Was I going to stay in LA or actually grow some balls and move to NY? I wanted to be smart and I remember having a conversation with Jerald that same month about where we wanted to be since our lease on our apartment was about to be up. I remember the conversation concluding with a, "let's see".

The next day I posted my resume on Monster and Career Builder, got a call from a recruiter for UNIQLO, asked to do an interview that Monday from a call on Friday, then fly out to New York for a final interview on Friday, and the rest was history all in a week's time.
Being that the month my blog died in September 2010, the last thing chronicled after that I pulled from Facebook. It got me nostalgic thinking about what I could do to update you all since then until this point.
Looking at these pictures, it's hard to believe we're in 2010. Not that the events feel like they were from yesterday, but it's crazy to believe it was that long ago already. Somethings that haven't changed in that plaid and florals are still heavy in Jerald and mine's wardrobe...lol

Dramatics NYC Made a Blonde aZn

Two Saturdays ago, I went to Dramatics NYC in the West Village for an appointment I was supposed to have with someone I booked with through StyleSeat (a promising website where you can book a beauty stylist online, with a non-functioning iPhone app), but she called out and I got colored by a chick named Aphrodite instead who I highly recommend if you're an aZn like me trying to go blonde.

I will say that the assistants at that salon are pretty junior (aka unprofessional), the job Aphrodite did was nothing short of amazing! For my long ass hair, I was expecting to pay close to $300, but for full highlights, hair treatment, blow out and styling it was close to $250.

Back to the outfit details. Some weeks ago, Jerald and I got off the train and saw some chick at our stop with these awesome Bart Simpson leggings. I immediately thought Jeremy Scott since he did snippets of a Simpsons collection for Fall/Winter 2012. Anyway, I searched high and low for them and found them here on Romwe.

They caused quite a stir the whole day with a whole bunch of people breakin' necks and eyes poppin'. Trying to tone them down with earthy tones probably helped me look less crazy...haha.
Johnston & Murphy

To be honest, I had probably heard of Johnston & Murphy once before stumbling upon them online. In my mind with the one mention I knew, I thought of them as another "dressy shoe" company that fell into the "Florsheim" category for business casual older folks that looked at comfort over style.

After browsing through their website and getting a catalogue in the mail that came with these shoes, it seems as if they're going through a brand renewal of sorts by offering "younger" looking styles like this boot. For the spring, their assortment gives off a Cole Haan type of vibe.

Anyway, I was so glad to have come across this particular shoe because (I don't know if this happens with some people, but) I'd been dreaming about a design like this forever and was waiting for someone/brand to come out with it at a price I wanted to actually buy them at. Being that I'm a leather snob (aka, I hate buying anything PU/fake leather/pleather), I (still) refuse to buy "trendy" shoes that will eventually fall apart and make your feet smell.

Thanks Johnston & Murphy!
In between, I've neglected a lot of the outlets that creatively kept me going on a consistent basis. Excuses for why are for those that don't want to change, so I'll make none.

I might have to take a break, but ya'll know I'll be back next week, or maybe even sooner than later.

Though these posts are a lot more contrived than my Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram you'll get to hear me more often than this 2 year stint.

For even more contrived posts, Style Insights has been somewhat around (shorter than the 2 year stint I've been in) and will be getting some love pretty soon...

Here's to the resurrection and revival of a blog that succumbed to the owner's every day pressures of life and hopes to survive off of the actions of posting from the owner rather than just the hopes and dreams of the owner returning to the internetz.

Cheers, bitches!

So here's a couple obligatory updates for what happened the first couple weeks in September.

UPDATE on Project Style: I lost. Sad.

I really think it came down to who had the most votes and not the actual outfit. Not to brag or anything, but I think my video and outfit were better than the other girl's. Her outfit looked like anyone could wear it. Nothing about her outfit really stood out to me. Okay, enough with my bitter Kanye moment.

It was hard to get people to vote on a website that didn't have a working link to Facebook. If I were someone, I would hate signing up for something I knew I wasn't going to use so I can understand why I didn't have many votes. Anyway, I'm glad I got chosen to be in the contest and I got a free $150 gift card to go shopping; the upside.

I also have some new YouTube videos up. The first one is the new Jazmine Sullivan joint that I got stuck in my head and really needed to get out. I practiced the song a couple times before I recorded and did the recording in one take. There's a couple spots that are pitchy, so sorry for that. A lot of my videos are one take since my neighbor downstairs doesn't like my singing too much and I think doing my videos in one take shows how real they are. Obvi, there's some takes that I'll re-do because I fuck up the words (the Aquarian perfectionist in me). But most of them are one take, one try type deals.

The second video is a request from my cousin from weeks and weeks ago that I haven't had time to do until now.

I've also updated the Style Insights blog with a post on Etsy shops based in my area and updated my Etsy with new select vintage pieces and eyewear. I've been juggling my job as a makeup artist and job of handling an etsy store. I've also been busy with getting rid of 5 years worth of stuff I never had time to really look through and been focusing on being a minimalist of some sort (which is a hard process for me since I grew up with a hoarding/pack rat of a mother).

I know I'm a little late and scarce on blog posts but I've been working fervently on crafting and curating pieces for Fall/Winter stuff for my etsy store. If you follow me on twitter, you've seen some previews like the ones below:

I've also been better about posting singing videos. If you haven't noticed by now, I like singing old songs. Here's some for you to listen to to keep you occupied:
If you're a follower of mine, you'll know how much I obsess over their shoes and pretty much starve myself just so I can get a pair of their shoes. I feel like a million bucks every time I wear my JCs!

You can imagine the excitement I felt when I saw these tweets this morning:

My pictures are currently featured on their website! I'm so excited because most of the pictures they chose, I'm wearing one of my designs (all still available on my etsy)!

If you've seen my Jeffrey Campbell page, you've seen these before but here's me on their website!

ok that's quite enough.

Until my next post. maybe it'll be about the insane amount of Jeffrey Campbells I bought with my poor credit card.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930589784492441809noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945016686253894162.post-21611151282218658312010-08-02T13:52:00.000-04:002013-02-22T14:09:53.891-05:00Me as The Wedding SingerIf you follow the other blog, Style Insights, you've caught up on my trip back to my home and place of birth, San Francisco and why I was there with outfits and all. But if you haven't, I'll brief you. I was up north to sing for my friend Nicole's wedding.

I had the hardest time with song selection. I didn't wanna just sing any old song, after all I planned on posting my performances on YouTube and I didn't want to re-hash or re-do any songs I'd already done. I originally told her I'd sing Alicia Keys - If I Ain't Got You, but asked if I could surprise her. So I sang Mary J. Blige - Be Without You and Faith Evans - Love Like This; the most two unconventional wedding songs I could think of and share with you people.

I guess you could say I was waiting for the perfect event to wear this dress I made for my couture class. I was gonna make it a "Vegas" dress, but no trips to Vegas have arise and because of the chiffon-y material, I can't just wear it out since it's pretty dressy. Overall, I'm glad how the outfit came out even though the picture isn't so great (since you can't see my shoes and the sun is in my face and I have that sun squinting look on my face).

And now for performances... You'll have to excuse my nervousness sucky singing (I had a couple drinks before I got up there) and awkward dancing (it's hard to get down in 6 inch platform heels without looking wonky). I think my singing sounds good in my head, and when I play it back, its a #wholenothastory. LOL. Whatever though... Love it or hate it, at the end of the day I love singing.
So who remembers this song?! I know I do (apparently)! Takes me back to high school... Oh the memories!

I know I messed up at the end, but like all of my other YouTube videos, I pretty much do one take, and if I mess up, I mess up. I hate re-recording especially with irritating neighbors.
So back in May, I had the opportunity to work with my internship with Gregory Parkinson again to do the makeup for his Resort collection. Catching up, he told me he applied for the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Fund. Applying for something like this can mean big things for a designer (publicity, financial support and even mentorship for upcoming designers). Gregory is definitely not new to fashion designing but he is a smaller label and winning this could mean expansion! He's such a talented designer and I learned a lot from him while I interned for him.

Well today, the CFDA announced the finalists and turns out, he's a finalist! Good luck Gregory!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930589784492441809noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945016686253894162.post-13547446992813019602010-07-16T12:12:00.000-04:002010-07-16T12:12:55.589-04:00Jeffrey Campbells that I can't afford...but absolutely need!

These are the first non platform shoe that I love by JC that I can't really justify spending that much money on. I love them, they're just too expensive. They're on solestruck if you've go the funds.

Back to my platform/wedge obsession, I finally found the Take 2 draped wedge in my size on Eilatan:

And the she mans! oh the she man. It's on Eilatan too.

So I'm pretty much out of commish on buying JC's until I come up on extra $$$ somehow. I'm so sad though. I know I bought a whole bunch of JC boots but we're still in summer! Maybe I should've thought of a way to strategically purchase summer shoes vs. fall/winter shoes.

Ugh... I wish these shoes that I can't afford would show up to my doorstep somehow. I love JC but they've officially depleted my funds to the point of starvation. LOL. sad face.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930589784492441809noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945016686253894162.post-19591704547654750592010-07-15T14:42:00.000-04:002010-07-15T14:42:44.221-04:00Me on Pink Kitten! JC Lovers Unite! So I found someone more obsessed about Jeffrey Campbell than I am & she just so happened to feature me on her blog:

Her name is Asami and she lives in Japan! Her obsession with Jeffrey Campbell far exceeds anyone I've every known. She has about 120 pairs and counting! That's more than any collection I've ever tried to gather.

Jeffrey Campbell has definitely taken notice. They've already featured her on their blog twice.

WE ARE OBSESSED WITH PINK KITTEN
and
Jeffrey Campbell + Pink Kitten. It’s a romance, a shoe-mance!

What makes her even more hardcore is that living in Japan, she has to pay customs on top of her already not-so-cheap Jeffrey Campbell's to arrive in the mail. Only a true hardcore fan would find their way to them.

Here she is in her Foxy JC's:

She's so cute!!!
On one of our summer insight posts he wrote about how he just bought "Super" sunglasses from a shop in our hometown of San Francisco called Acrimony. Turns out they liked our pictures with the shades they sold and linked us back!

So I posted this look on Lookbook a couple days ago. So I basically strutted around in my sky high Jeffrey Campbells from 10am-3am. All the while working @ MAC Cosmetics, Bowling with friends, and Karaoke.

As much as I love these shoes, they kill me! Platforms for me at least are supposed to = comfort. But these take a toll on the balls of my feet and actually made my second toe (next to the big toe) numb that I had to give my feet a break the next day and wear frumpy flats (I've been wearing JC Platforms like every single day lately...YES even on my days off). These are super tight around your foot that I actually got blisters on my Achilles heel the first time I tried breaking these in since I kept scooting my foot back to the heel since the front part of the straps were really tight. Maybe I just have to wear them more often?

And if you follow me on twitter, you'll know I also went lighter with my hair. It actually looks a lot lighter than it did when I first got it done. I feel like it's getting lighter and lighter with every wash so I try to dry shampoo as often as possible (as gross as that sounds).

So that night after I closed at work, Jerald and I met up some friends and went bowling at Action Lanes in El Monte. After we went bowling we noticed a Karaoke bar inside the bowling alley so we decided we'd go there. People in there were really fucking serious! Some people brought their own VCD/Laserdisk Karaoke songs to sing to. I was like DAAAAAAAMN!! The wait for Karaoke was really long and like any Karaoke bar, it's basically who you know or if the DJ likes you. I waited 50 million songs before I sang this jam that I've always wanted to sing. Real Love - Mary J. Blige:

As you can tell, I was heavily inebriated by the time I got up there. The background vocals are really loud which is why you'll find me covering my ear at certain points just to hear myself....and when you add alcohol and having the background vocals too loud, you get me singing kinda off. LOL.
Enjoy my drunk dancing singing self.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930589784492441809noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6945016686253894162.post-86888086400229056302010-07-14T12:05:00.000-04:002010-07-14T12:05:29.822-04:00The Soundtrack to Your Summer

I know I'm a little late since this came out like almost 2 weeks ago. Jerald put me up to this mixtape when he found the link on Undrcrwn's website. It's a mix of nearly 50 tracks done by Mick Boogie and DJ Jazzy Jeff (Old School Hip Hop & R&B). This mixtape will take you back for sure. I've been bumping it in between listening to new albums. Pretty much it'll play heavy in your rotation too.

The best part is that it's free.
I'm assuming Fashion Like Heroin works for JC? Her posts show a lot of exclusive shit that I've never seen before.

So in my last post about Kelis, I said I was, "Excited for what her next album is gonna bring." Well apparently I've been sleeping under a rock or something because I didn't realize until doing a search the other day that her album came out on May 17, 2010. So to try to explain to you how excited that made me I couldn't put in words. I drove my college roommates crazy playing "Kelis Was Here" over and over. "Blindfold Me", "Circus", "Trilogy", "Fuck Them Bitches", "Lil' Star" and pretty much every track on the album were my favorites. The last album had an alternative hip hop vibe which I really enjoyed.

I finally listened to her new album "Flesh Tone" and it felt like the whole album should be played in West Hollywood and the Castro [which is not a bad thing at all]. "Flesh Tone" is a far cry from "Kelis Was Here". Completely different genres on both albums. "Flesh Tone" is a lot more electro/synth/dance/house which I should have known listening to "Acapella". I noticed too that this album is half the tracks of the last one. "Kelis Was Here" had 17 tracks and "Flesh Tone" only has 9.

The beats were obviously produced by Guetta, Benassi, and less will.i.am who produced a lot of "Kelis Was Here". Reading some interviews after I listened to the whole thing made me realize that, I guess that's what she was going for. Definitely different everything. She might have lost some fans though from such a dramatic shift in genres, but she definitely hasn't lost me as a fan. I might not bump it as often as I would "Kelis Was Here" but I still like the album. I'll probably blast the "Flesh Tone" joint on the way to WeHo on Wednesdays.

In short, if you're a fan of anything David Guetta or Benny Benassi, you should listen to this album.

If you don't know by now or haven't followed my tweets on twitter, you'll know how much I've been obsessing over Lita by Jeffrey Campbell. I wanted to kill myself when the first round of pre-orders were sold out. I tweeted all over the place and direct messaged Solestruck and Jeffrey Campbell himself. With hard determination and perseverance I was able to acquire a pre-order for a black pair in a size 6 with the constant hitting of the refresh button. THANK GOD.

Looks like you can still pre-order these bad babies but the ship dates are pushed further out. GOD THIS SHOE.. IT'S LIKE THE IPHONE 4 FOR JEFFREY CAMPBELL FOR GOD'S SAKE.

Ok, I know I said she looked like Mr. Tumnus from the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe but this Guetta beat is undeniable and the costume choices and makeup are a-fucking-mazing.

Kelis was Kelis, before Lady GaGa came out and I've always been a fan of her style and music.

Excited for what her next album is gonna bring. So sad that I wasn't able to score tickets to see her and Robyn in action.

I blogged about "Why Stop" a couple days ago and I saw a blog on the Jeffrey Campbell twitter that chronicled another obsessed JC fan with her wants and finds. On one of her posts, she chronicles that the "Why Stop" would be in black on none other than: Solestruck. A daily check up on the website led me to bust out my credit card and place an order for these babies:

And then another daily perusal of the Karmaloop website offered these babies: The Bond II Boot to me with a $30 discount. I had some money in PayPal that I freed up for these:

Then a couple of days ago my fav store in SF on Haight Street who now has an online shop where they too sell crack shoes: Jeffrey Campbell. I've been desperately trying to find Jeffrey Campbell Alexa:

but, I came up on these that have been pretty much sold out everywhere in my size: Vienna which is a more than logical substitute.

And in my post on my other blog; Style Insights about Jeffrey Campbell, I mentioned the Mesh Wedge but couldn't really fork up the finds to buy it full price, and then I find it on footnotesonline for sale in all its glory.

I'm just so glad I can finally put a name to the boots I blogged about the couple of days before too: Lita

I hear they'll be online hopefully this month.

AAAAND MY MOST EXCITING NEWS OF THE WEEK REGARDING JEFFREY CAMPBELL WAS THEIR RESPONSE TO MY OUTFIT CHOICES WITH THEIR SHOES:

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930589784492441809noreply@blogger.com0
